What kind of fuel do they use here?

Here are two pictures of exhaust marks on the sidewalk in front of my apartment. The weather has been unusually cold but is that enough of an explanation? I don't remember such marks in Canada.

It's from deisel fuel.

I hand't thought about deisel, but there are quite a few deisel cars in Korea. Still, there are a lot of black spots on the sidewalk. I know one car could have parked in two different places - that many deisels?

Due to the cost of gas here (especially here in Kangwon) most have switched to diesel. Also they are running some kind of fuel (other than gas in their gas cars. Smells odd and I'm sure it can't be good to breath the fumes.
